How to use this tool

Choose a content type, fill in the details, and your QR code generates automatically. Customise the options to suit your use case:

  • Content type: Encode a URL or text, or pick WiFi, contact card, email, SMS, phone, or location to fill in the right fields.
  • Size: Choose 128px for small print, 256px for standard use, or 512px for large-format printing.
  • Error Correction: Higher levels let the code be read even if partially damaged. Use High if you plan to overlay a logo on the code.
  • Pattern & eyes: Choose a module shape (square, rounded, dots, classy) and style the three corner "eyes" independently.
  • Fill: Use a solid colour or a linear/radial gradient, and optionally a transparent background. Always maintain strong contrast for reliable scanning.
  • Frame: Add a "Scan me" caption card or a circular badge around your code.
  • Logo: Add your logo to the centre of the code. We automatically switch to High error correction and place it on a clean backing so the code still scans — always test it before printing.
  • Export: Download a PNG for everyday use, or an SVG for print and large-format work.

All generation happens in your browser — no data is sent to any server.

Frequently asked questions

What is a QR code?

A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional barcode that can store URLs, text, contact information, and other data. It can be scanned instantly by any smartphone camera. QR codes were invented in 1994 and are now used everywhere from product packaging to payment systems.

What do QR code error correction levels mean?

Error correction allows a QR code to be read even if part of it is damaged or obscured. There are four levels: L (Low, 7% recovery), M (Medium, 15% recovery), Q (Quartile, 25% recovery), and H (High, 30% recovery). Higher error correction makes the QR code denser but more resilient. Use H if you plan to add a logo over the centre of the code.

What is the maximum data a QR code can hold?

A QR code can hold up to 7,089 numeric characters, 4,296 alphanumeric characters, or 2,953 bytes of binary data. In practice, shorter URLs and text scan faster and more reliably. If you need to encode a long URL, consider using a URL shortener first.

Can I customise the colours of a QR code?

Yes, you can change the foreground and background colours. Ensure there is sufficient contrast between the two colours for reliable scanning — dark modules on a light background works best. Avoid reversing the colours (light on dark) as some scanners struggle with this.

Can I change the shape of a QR code?

Yes. You can choose square, rounded, dot, or classy module patterns, and style the three corner finder patterns (the "eyes") independently. The underlying data grid stays square — that is what lets any scanner read it — but the look is fully customisable.

Will a styled or rounded QR code still scan?

It will, as long as there is strong contrast, a clear quiet zone (margin), and the finder patterns stay distinct. This tool keeps the quiet zone, warns you about low contrast, and raises error correction automatically when you add a logo. Always test-scan a styled code before printing.

Can I make a QR code with a transparent background?

Yes. Switch on "Transparent background" and download a PNG or SVG with transparency. Because the code then shows whatever is behind it, keep it on a light, plain surface and test that it still scans.

What can I store in a QR code?

A URL or plain text, WiFi network details, a contact card (vCard), an email, an SMS, a phone number, or a map location. Shorter content scans faster and more reliably.
